Image
If you are visiting my profile you will notice on the left hand side I have added a Twitter widget to my sidebar! I have linked my account so it is quick and easy to get from my blog to my Twitter. It also updates with every tweet so there's no need to even leave my blog page. Photo Caption -  Twitter Logo

Time Strategies for Less Stress

Image
The first article that I read was  The Myth of "Too Busy"  by Tim Grahl. I found some of it very useful but also found his attitude towards life a bit too serious. When he said " If an activity is not significantly helping me towards my goals—whether that goal is selling books or having a good relationship with my wife—then it gets cut out of my life. End of story." I found this a bit sad to be honest, so many things we do as humans don't help us towards whatever our goal is but it doesn't mean we don't enjoy them moments. I do definitely agree with certain things he says like going to bed an hour or two earlier to wake up earlier so you can be productive though and I will try and include this in my schedule this semester. I found this one way more helpful and interesting. It was quick and straight to the p

Tips on Technology

Image
After reading the first post about Technology Tools and the different ones we will use this semester I have learned specific programmes that can be used for Tools I have already heard of e.g Diigo for Bookmarking and Cheezburger for Graphics. Image Caption -  Tips and Tricks Photo The different programmes that we have been recommended reminds me of Introduction to Digital Media in Semester 1, Year 1. We had to complete missions and use different technologies within the missions. I think these Technology Tools will be useful in many assignments in other modules as well as Multimedia Development. Another skill I hope to work on this semester is how to design my blog in a more professional way - at the moment I think it looks pretty basic so I hope by the end of semester 1 it looks better.

Assignments and Class Tasks

After reading each of the different core assignments that include - Reading, Unity3D, Blog Comments, Project and Project Feedback the one I'm most looking forward to is Unity3D and getting to know how to use it. I'm not a gamer but wouldn't say I hate games, it's just that I never really find the time to play them. I think getting to learn how to make our own games will be really interesting and after looking up how Unity3D works it seems like it's very beginner friendly!  In other classes assignments and extra credit aren't really laid out as clear, we get it week by week and it varies every time. In Multimedia Development we know exactly what needs to be done each week for the semester so hopefully it makes it much easier! After looking what is involved in each task the one that's sticking out for me is Wikipedia Trails. I cou

What is Growth Mindset?

Image
“A growth mindset is when students understand that their abilities can be developed,” (Carol Dweck, 2014). Image Caption: Differences Between Fix and Growth Mindset - Via Pinterest  growth vs fixed Before watching the Ted Talk of Carol Dweck I hadn't heard of her or even heard of Growth Mindset! I found it quite interesting to learn about her studies and it really made me think about what kind of mindset I had myself and how I can change. I think I fall somewhere in the middle of both, for example, if I read a brief for an assignment and I think it sounds too difficult I'll put off doing it until the last minute before I panic and have to figure out a way to get it done. I also can see a fixed mindset in other aspects of my life. When travelling I have sometimes put doing activities I want to do off if there is any obstacle in my way, for example, when I was in New York I wanted to go to Coney Island but when I realised it was 2 hours away I just cancelled that part of the tr

A Brief Introduction To a Life in Isolation

Image
For anybody in the CDM course who doesn't know me yet my name is Seán Clarke and I'm 24 (until Sunday). I'm from Dublin and live in Swords which is about a 20 minute drive by car from the Blanchardstown Campus or what feels like an 8 hour bus journey in the mornings. I'm not going to talk too much about my upbringing or anything but more about what life in lockdown has been like for me. Enjoy and I hope I don't bore anybody too much! So the first time I heard about Coronavirus I didn't think anything of it really and I think majority of people felt the same. I thought it was going to be like the bird flu and that it was being blown out of proportion. The first time I think it felt real for me was when Daniel McSweeney came in to our lecture and gave us an update on how it was going to affect our college life. It was quite daunting at first and it made me nervous for both the rest of the semester and life in general.  The last sense of normality I was trying to t

A Non Gamers Favourite Game

Image
I would be lying if I said I had fully played more than 10 games in my life. I grew up playing Grand Theft Auto, Crash Bandicoot and WWE games but once I turned about 13 I stopped.  I love anything to do with zombies and my friend told me about this new game that got released that was one of the best reviewed video games of all time so I had to try it out. The game was The Last of Us.  Image Information - Gameplay from The Last of Us - gameplay
